Our History
Who We Are
Tadamun Social Society (TASS) was established in 1992 by a group of national intellectuals who wanted to bring about change in a divided and dilapidated Somalia. Following the collapse of the Central Government in the Puntland of Somalia in 1991, TASS committed itself to building a moral and prosperous society. The founders of TASS are Said Abdullahi Dini, Yussuf Ali Bihi, Abdirashid Saleban Yussuf, Farah Said Mohamed and Osman Haji Mire. TASS started its operation in Bossaso in the Bari region and later expanded to all regions of Puntland as well as establishing field offices in Garowe and Galkayo.
The first donor to support TASS was the World Assembly Muslim Youth Organisation who helped to construct Imam Nawawi School in 1992. Following this, CARE international, Oxform Novib, Islamic Development Bank, and UNICEF as well many other UN and International NGO partners later offered their support.
Eighteen years on, through our extensive and diverse projects, we have achieved a sense of community in Somalia. With education at the core of our development structure, we are running seventeen primary and secondary schools, which cater over 10,000 students. We opened the first ever Tuberculosis (TB) Centre in Puntland that has cured over 5,000 patients so far. Following severe droughts in the last two decades, we have built water wells for Somali people to enjoy a fundamental right in life. Furthermore, we have established initiatives aimed at uniting the community and building a moral society: boats for fishermen, child protection programme, supporting orphans, addressing gender-based violence and numerous other community projects.
